Episodes #61-90
Claire confronted Diane with the evidence that she'd manipulated Tim and Claire's romantic weekend. Diane was forced to tell the whole truth. Tim and Claire vowed to get sole custody of Samantha and later shared a tender reunion.
The custody hearing got under way, and it appeared that the judge might rule either way: Tim and Claire presented a strong case, painting Diane as dangerous; Diane, however, did an excellent job of focusing on the recent dysfunction in the Fisher family. The judge eventually decided to grant the Fishers primary custody, with considerable visitation for Diane.
Tim and Claire nearly learned the truth about Brian's assistance to Diane, but Diane saved Brian at the last minute by saying she'd lied about it. Meanwhile, she received a job offer in Los Angeles. Tim worried that if she took it, the custody arrangement -- and Samantha's life -- would be fouled up. They all finally reached an agreement, however, and Diane moved to L.A.
Not long after, a mysterious man began to tail Claire around town. She shaed with Paula her fears that it might be her father, James -- after all, his body had never been found. Claire was stunned when the man revealed himself to her ... as her teenage sweetheart, Ryan Moriani.
Brent and Sarah began work on a case in New York. Heiress Andrea Yang had been robbed of a stash of priceless heirloom jewels. All signs pointed to Matt Gray, Andrea's ex-boyfriend, with whom she remained friends. Brent bought into this idea, but Sarah found herself wanting to support Matt. This quickly caused her to butt heads with Andrea's fiance, Steve Parker. Eventually, the built-up evidence, including testimony from Ed Powers, Andrea's neighbor, forced Brent to turn his and Sarah's findings over to the police.
Meanwhile, back in King's Bay, Molly's relationship with Brian began to get more serious. Each grappled with their own private worries -- she over her feelings for Brent, he over his scheming with Diane. The relationship stood on rocky ground for months before Molly eventually overheard Brian and Diane talking about their dirty work. She broke up with him and he accompanied Diane to Los Angeles.
Brent and Sarah returned to King's Bay with a noticeable rift between them. Sarah did not agree with Brent's decision to turn the evidence that incriminated Matt over to the police. Matt showed up at their apartment and asked Sarah for help in proving his innocence; she agreed. Though Brent was firmly against it, Sarah returned to New York with Matt to put the case to rest.
With Shannon locked up, Courtney and Jason's relationship began to deepen. As their romance bloomed, however, Courtney continued to receive disturbing signs. She received numerous threats -- and her father, Don, "fell" from a ladder, though Courtney was sure it was no accident. She and Lauren began to suspect Dr. Smith.
They went to search for the truth, but were stunned to find Sandy, the skating coach, with him! She revealed that they were engaged, but had been keeping their relationship secret because of the nasty divorce the doc was fighting through. Lauren felt this explained why she'd seen him at the rink the day Courtney received a death threat.
Things were not so simple, however. Dr. Smith was involved -- he was taking orders from someone via telephone. Fearing that Courtney was too close to the truth, he was forced to plant a bomb in her car; it would explode when the vehicle was turned off. Things got more complicated when his beloved Sandy climbed into the car with Courtney. After a harrowing chase, the truth came out: Dr. Smith had been taking orders from Shannon. He died in Sandy's arms.
Jason and Courtney, who'd separated after he expressed concern that perhaps the stalking was all in Courtney's mind, reconciled. They shared a romantic evening to celebrate her 21st birthday.
Meanwhile, Courtney's father, Don, wound up in the hospital after being pushed from a ladder (which had been part of Shannon's plan, Dr. Smith later revealed). A mysterious woman read about the accident in the newspaper and arrived at the hospital. As she stood over his bedside, Don awoke from his coma. He was shocked to see his ex-wife, Sally Marshall, in his hospital room!
After he was released from the hospital, Sally continued to secretly visit Don at home. He began to experience terrible headaches and mood swings. Eventually, Sally convinced him that a trip to Europe -- to see the art he admired -- would be good for his health. He took off, not telling his family about Sally. Little did he know she'd tag along on the trip.
Helen and Courtney worried about his health as he headed for Paris. As Don and Sally sat in the hotel, discussing the break-up of their long-ago marriage, a young man arrived at the Chase home in King's Bay -- and introduced himself as Alex Marshall, Sally's son!
Katherine's quiet disapproval of Andy and Danielle's relationship came to a head when Shannon purposely sent Mrs. Fitch to the coffee house, where the lovebirds had planned to rendezvous. Andy shocked his mother by choosing Danielle over her and moving out of the mansion. He and Danielle later became engaged.
Katherine continued to privately scheme. Eventually, Danielle received a record offer from an executive, Roberta Owens, who'd heard her sing at the coffee house one night. Little did anyone know that Katherine was paying Roberta to offer Danielle the contract, in hopes it would get Ms. Taylor out of King's Bay -- and Andy's life.
Danielle was privately torn over the offer, because it included a clause that she must tour for a year. Brent advised her to take it, because if Andy truly loved her, he would wait; Danielle felt it was unfair to do this to her intended. Katherine tried to figure out how to best use this all to her advantage.
