Episodes #31-60
After passing out at Brent and Sarah’s reception, Diane announced her pregnancy to Tim and Claire. She said nothing of the father – momentarily. Later, she and Brian arranged for Claire to overhear Diane confessing the child’s paternity to Tim. A baffled Tim, not remembering their tryst in the hospital, begged Claire to let Diane explain, but Diane lied that she and Tim had had a drunken fling after a business dinner. A volatile Claire, still reeling from James’s death, kicked Tim out.
As his memory began to slowly flood back, Tim hinted to Claire that Diane was lying. Still, she could bring herself to let him back in her life. Diane received a letter that James had sent before his death, which revealed all her schemes. However, she kept it (in a hidden spot) because it also contained information clearing of any wrongdoing in Travis’s kidnapping, just in case.
Eventually, Tim moved in with Diane, pretending to want a life with her and the baby. While in the apartment, he found the letter. His memory fully returned, and he and Claire forced the entire truth out of Diane. They sued for custody. When the hearing convened, however, Diane went into labor. Tim, seeing a new side of her personality, cautiously began to work towards a friendship with her in hopes of building a stable life for their child. After giving birth to a daughter, Samantha, Diane continued to become more friendly with Tim and even Claire.
Secretly, though, she still wanted Tim. As Tim and Claire arranged to go on a romantic getaway, Diane set things up so that each would believe the other had stood them up. Tim went back to the apartment alone, and Diane showed up there. As she attempted to "comfort" him, Claire burst in and announced that Diane was busted!
While Craig was away on a business trip, the stalker broke into the apartment and went after Molly. Brent, who happened to be there, rushed out and saved her. The stalker was unmasked and revealed to be Craig! He confessed that he’d begun scaring Molly just to have the chance to cozy up to her, but had begun to see a dangerous closeness between her and Brent. Though they both denied all feelings for each other, Craig was unconvinced. As Sarah stood outside, overhearing the entire ordeal, Craig attempted to kill Molly and Brent. In the struggle, he was killed instead.
Molly struggled with her pain following the incident, and Brent was there to offer friendly support. Sarah seethed with jealousy over their growing bond. Later, Molly began to date Brian. Their relationship, despite a deep undercurrent of friendship, was marred by both of their secrets: Brian feared that his past involvement in Diane’s schemes would come back to haunt him; Molly tried to suppress her feelings for Brent. Sarah, still unconvinced that Molly was no longer a threat to her marriage, arranged for herself and Brent to take jobs as private investigators. They headed to New York to work on a case.
Brent’s sister, Danielle, decided to move to King’s Bay permanently. The aspiring singer took a job at the Fitch mansion to save up money for her demo tape. There she met Andy Fitch, son of the widowed Katherine. They became fast friends and began to get closer as they investigated the mystery of the Fitches’ missing maid. Katherine made no secret of her displeasure with the blossoming relationship – at least with Andy. In private conversations, she warned him to end the relationship. His refusals led Katherine to vow to herself that she’d put an end to her son’s involvement with Danielle.
Courtney and Lauren tracked Dave Roberts, who she’d identified as the hitman, to a large house – which they discovered belonged to Shannon! Lauren had to leave, but Courtney managed to snap some pictures of Shannon and Dave talking. However, they spotted her, and her injury prevented her from getting away in time. Dave took the camera from her and Shannon hid it away.
Courtney informed Jason of what she’d seen, but he said he couldn’t accept it without proof. This caused a deep rift in their friendship. When Jason went to Courtney’s house to try to make amends, he overheard her tell Lauren that she never wanted to see him again. This drove him to go to Shannon’s. She managed to get him drunk and into bed. The next morning, she led him to believe they’d both gotten drunk and hopped in the sack. Jason felt guilty, but discouraged her from hoping for any further relationship. On the way home, his distraction and the snow on the road caused a car crash. He was fine, however.
Later, Jason and Courtney finally made up. Both still hid their feelings from the other, but their friendship was renewed. As they began to grow closer, however, Shannon decided to use the ammunition she did have. On New Year’s Eve, she spilled to Courtney about her night with Jason. Courtney again rejected Jason. Around the same time, an odd link seemed to spring up between Shannon and the Fitches. Jason and Shannon headed to Phoenix for a skating competition. He continued to reject her advances, but she was undaunted. However, once the competition ended, Jason found that Andy, Danielle, Brent, Sarah, and Courtney were in Phoenix as well – and they had some shocking news. Shannon was "Lisa Stafford," the Fitches’ former maid, who had murdered her parents in an arson. Shannon was arrested and finally, Courtney and Jason began to clear the air between them.
The couple admitted their feelings for each and shared a kiss. Soon after, they were officially a couple. When they headed up to the Chase cabin for a little romance, though, they were frightened when a window was mysteriously broken …
