Episodes #01-30

Tim Fisher and his pregnant wife Claire went to Chicago to look at houses as he considered taking a job there. However, Claire was visibly displeased by this. Tim questioned her about it, and Claire confessed that she had been raped there as a teenager by an ex-boyfriend. She also discovered her father’s involvement with the mob around the same time, but never said anything -- her father, James Robbins, was unaware that she knew about it. Tim agreed to turn down the job offer.

When James heard that Tim was considering taking the offer despite Claire’s wishes, he ordered a "goon" to threaten Tim. Unfortunately, Tim was shot and wound up in a coma. He awoke with amnesia. His boss, Diane Bishop, wanted Tim for herself, and pretended to be Claire so that Tim slept with her. James, who went to the hospital with Claire hoping he’d be able to cover up his involvement in the shooting, suspected Diane was up to something and told her to cut it out. Soon, Tim learned the truth about his life, but dismissed the memory of sleeping with Diane as another hallucination caused by his amnesiac state and several medications, which was how Diane explained her way out of Tim thinking she was his wife.

When Claire gave birth to baby Travis not long after, Tim regained his memory. He told Claire that James had been behind the shooting, and the police began searching for James at once. Diane, who only overheard part of the conversation, phoned James in the hope that he would come over and start a fight between Tim and Claire that might separate them and give her a chance to pursue Tim. Unfortunately, James had Travis kidnapped and fled to a jungle with him. A guilty Diane, via cell phone conversations with the villain, managed to find some clues as to his whereabouts and sent Tim and Claire an anonymous fax. They headed to the jungle, based on the clues and Claire’s childhood memories of her father’s travels, to find James and their son.

Once Tim and Claire were gone, Diane recruited Brian Hamilton, a coworker, to assist her in her schemes. She discovered that she was pregnant and that Tim must be the father. Diane and Brian plotted how to best use this information to their advantage.

James’s men quickly caught Tim and Claire and locked them in the basement. After they nearly escaped, however, they were locked in a cage dangling above a vat of acid. They managed to obtain a blueprint of the compound and planned an escape route; during a bathroom break, Tim phoned Brent in King’s Bay and informed him of their whereabouts. James figured out that Tim had called the police and arranged for everyone to leave the jungle shortly. Brent and Sarah arrived just in time with several other officers and found Tim and Claire. James and his cohorts also came in, and after much arguing and struggling, Tim and Claire slipped out of the cage. James tried to throw Tim over the railing into the acid, claiming it was Tim’s fault that Claire had turned against her father, but Claire tried to save her husband. In doing this, James was knocked through the railing. He tumbled into the acid below.

Rookie police officer Sarah began dating her commander, Brent Taylor. Soon they were very involved. Meanwhile, Molly discovered she was being stalked. As the threats continued, she was comforted by coworker Craig Simmons. They soon struck up a relationship as well.

One night, Brent brought Molly to his apartment to keep an eye on her in case the stalker tried to come after her. After a wonderful night together, they shared an impulsive kiss. They decided to kiss again to be sure it was just spontaneous and meaningless, which they did -- unfortunately, Sarah had arrived to pick Molly up. She witnessed the kiss but heard none of their conversation and sent Molly home while she proposed to Brent that they elope. They were married that night.

Threats against Molly continued. She, Craig, and Brent traveled to Denver to follow up on a lead, but found nothing. Brent and Molly grew closer, however, and nearly kissed again. Both tried to deny their attraction to the other, realizing how many lives their feelings could tear apart.

Molly accepted Craig’s marriage proposal as she began to fear more and more for her life. Brent and Sarah went to the jungle to rescue Tim and Claire, and when they returned, held a renewal of their marriage vows. Brent was unsure because of his budding feelings for Molly, but convinced himself that he had made a commitment to Sarah and went ahead with the vow renewal. Sarah was thrilled and took this as a sign of his undying love. In the meantime, Molly grew more confused about her own upcoming wedding, unsure if marrying Craig would be fair -- or even what she wanted.

After an accident on the ice, Courtney was injured and unable to skate. Sandy recruited Shannon as a new partner for Jason. She soon became obsessed with him and threatened Courtney, who took it as immature jealousy and said nothing to anyone about it. Shannon devised a plan to drive Courtney mad and set it in motion: She planted a transmitter in Courtney’s room and would speak to her as she slept, causing Courtney to have terrible nightmares. A distracted Courtney was nearly hit by a car, but Shannon then decided her plan was too risky and not efficient enough. As she struggled with horrible flashbacks of a fire, she developed a new plot. Meanwhile, Courtney and Jason began to privately realize they had feelings for each other, but kept them hidden for fear of being rejected and ruining their friendship.

Dr. Smith informed Courtney should could begin skating again. Sandy told Jason he had to choose which girl to continue skating with. He planned to choose Courtney, but Shannon caught wind of this and hired a hitman to club Courtney in the knee. The injury was bad enough to keep her off the ice for quite some time, forcing Jason to remain with Shannon. A suspicious Courtney shared with Jason her feeling that Shannon was behind the attack and told him about Shannon’s previous threats to her. A skeptical Jason found all this difficult to believe, but Courtney determined to prove that Shannon had hired the hitman to assault her.
