Episode Summaries
Episode #1: Sarah goes out to dinner with Brent Taylor, the police commander. Courtney is injured during a lift, and the doctors tell Jason and Sandy that Courtney might be out for a full year. Tim and Claire return home from Chicago, where they have been looking at houses. A pregnant Claire seems upset at the prospect of Tim accepting a job in Chicago. Later, everyone meets at the Fishers’ house, where Molly tells everyone about her new job at the Charlene Powers fashion agency. After everyone leaves, Bill and Paula comment on how different all their lives are becoming. When she arrives home, Molly finds a dead bird and 12 roses on the landing outside her apartment.
Episode #2: When Tim asks her about a message left on the answering machine, Claire is evasive. Finally, Tim manages to get the truth out of her: As a teenager, she discovered that her father, James Robbins, had ties to the mob. She went to live with her mother and stepfather in Chicago, but an ex-boyfriend, the son of one of James’s mob associates, came after her and ended up raping her. Meanwhile, Sarah brings a traumatized Molly over to the Fisher home. As she asks Brent for some kind of help with the case, her cell phone rings. She heads back to her parents’ house, where the stalker has just left a dozen black roses in the back seat of the car via a smashed window; Molly’s name has also been scrawled on the window.
Episode #3: Sarah informs Bill that Molly had a visitor earlier in the day -- a male coworker. Later, the crime scene analyst calls with the results; the examination was inconclusive. Sandy speaks to Shannon Parish about skating with Jason. Shannon accepts. Jason breaks the news to Courtney that he might skate with someone else, and she accepts it. They bond, and later he tells Sandy he’ll give it a shot with Shannon. Claire speaks to James on the phone. He acts annoyed that Tim might take the job in spite of her protests, although he remains unaware what her qualms with the move are exactly. Tim is confronted in an alley by Alan, a thug working for James. When Tim responds defiantly to James’s request that he turn down the job offer, Alan shoots him.
Episode #4: Several days later, Tim remains in a coma after the shooting. The police and the Fishers have no clue as to the culprit or their motive. Dr. Smith warns that Tim may awaken with brain damage or amnesia. Later, Tim has a terrible seizure. Molly talks to Claire about their family situations before Claire gets a call from the hospital about Tim’s attack. Jason visits Courtney and reassures her that he is not just continuing to visit out of guilt over the accident. After they bond, he goes to the rink, where Sandy has him skate with Shannon.
Episode #5: Brent and Sarah hang out together and grow closer. They are interrupted by a call from Paula telling them about Tim’s attack. They head to the hospital in time for Dr. Smith to tell the family that Tim is out of immediate danger, but his medication could cause a relapse. After nearly getting into a fight over the issue, they choose to take him off it. At the restaurant, Craig asks Molly if she would like to take their relationship a step further and make this a "date"; she agrees. Paula pays Courtney a visit, where Courtney reveals that she wants to be more than friends with Jason.
Episode #6: Sarah and Brent spend the day together. While their romance blooms, Sarah can’t help but shake the feeling that something terrible is going to happen. Craig calls to invite Molly out to dinner, but she has plans with an old friend, Kristen, who used to skate at the same rink as Courtney and Jason. When Kristen arrives, she informs Paula that Shannon has a reputation for being very difficult. Kristen and Molly go upstairs, and as Molly fills her friend in on the latest happenings, something smashes the window from outside. A terrified Molly screams.
Episode #7: Jason visits Courtney briefly and then heads home. The next day, Shannon visits Courtney and tells her that she wants Jason for herself, so Courtney had better not get in the way. Molly sees that the rock that flew through the window had her name scrawled all over it. Kristen, who was hit by it, is fine. The next morning, the family worries that Molly’s life could be in serious danger. Paula also shares with Bill that Courtney has feelings for Jason. Claire is shocked by a visit from her father, James, who she finally tells about her rape as a teenager after he insults her choice of Tim as a husband. James exits quickly after Claire brings up the shooting. Still comatose, Tim has a nightmare about Claire leaving him. Just then, James comes to visit and Tim’s machines go wild. Dr. Smith and a nurse enter and ask James what he is doing there.
Episode #8: Brent tells Sarah to go back to the house and get Molly, but she can’t find her. Just as Sarah calls Brent, Molly arrives at his office to talk. Brent tells Sarah he’ll take Molly to his place until she gets off duty. Shannon and Courtney run into each other at the rink; although she behaves normally around Sandy and Jason, the minute she gets alone with Courtney, Shannon threatens her. It becomes clear that Shannon sees Courtney as an obstacle to both her career and any hopes she might have of a relationship with Jason. At the hospital, James manages to avoid being seen by Claire, who is on-duty as a nurse. She tries to assist Dr. Smith in waking Tim, but panics when he doesn’t respond. Finally, he opens his eyes; when Claire talks to him, he asks her who she is.
Episode #9: Tim does not recognize Claire. Bill and Paula arrive at the hospital and Dr. Smith informs Tim’s family that he has amnesia. Claire goes in to see Tim again, but he thinks she is simply a nurse. Molly and Brent get caught up in their time together and kiss. Both said they didn’t feel anything, although in their minds, they are both excited by the kiss. Unbeknownst to them, Sarah arrives at the apartment and sees them kiss through the window. She gets into a panic, thinking she will lose Brent to Molly. Without letting them know what she saw, Sarah tells Molly it’s safe to go home and then asks Brent to elope with her. They go to the chapel, where they prepare to marry.
Episode #10: Courtney comes to the rink to watch Jason & Shannon practice. Shannon makes quiet threats to her and then plots to interrupt Jason & Courtney’s lunch together. She shows up at the restaurant as they are enjoying each other’s company and joins them. Claire tells Tim about her husband not responding to her and their baby in a hypothetical scenario, but on the inside is brokenhearted; Tim remains clueless. Claire calls his boss, Diane, to tell her about Tim’s situation. After they get off the phone, Diane grins evilly. Sarah & Brent wake up at an inn after being married. Both privately remember the kiss between Brent & Molly. Sarah calls home and tells a shocked Paula about the elopement. Paula relays the news to Molly, who is stunned & privately upset. Molly makes plans for lunch with Craig, but in her office, she finds a small box that explodes.
Episode #11: Unhurt in the explosion, Molly returns to work a few days later. She and Craig exchange "I love you’s," but then she receives a threatening phone message from a disguised voice. Sarah & Brent travel home from their honeymoon. An insecure Sarah keeps trying to keep Brent’s mind off Molly. Jason visits Tim, who recounts a dream about his apartment and one of the nurses, who Jason correctly guesses to be Claire. He tries to call Claire, but she is not home. Jason goes back to Tim’s room. Over lunch and some time in Paula’s garden, she and Claire discuss the family’s troubles and then decide to go see Tim. In the hospital elevator, Claire has a feeling that something bad is going to happen. Diane has a fantasy about Tim and then goes to the hospital to see him, promising it’ll be a visit he never forgets.
Episode #12: Bill puts up a cold front when Sarah and Brent arrive, but after an emotional conversation in which Sarah pours her heart out, Bill gives them his blessing. Shaken by the phone message, Molly goes to Craig’s. They call Brent & Sarah, who come over with Bill and pick up the tape containing the message. Craig tells Molly to sleep in the bedroom and he’ll take the couch. Diane visits Tim and tells him that she is his wife and she’s ready to take him home, but then Claire & Paula arrive. Luckily for Diane, they are distracted enough by Jason describing Tim’s dream that she has time to tell Tim to take a nap and to hide herself. Claire, Paula, and Jason go to get some food and Diane is able to escape, upset that her plan didn’t work. Meanwhile, in a dark room, a match is lit; it reveals a male hand running over a shrine to Molly and many of the stalker’s trademark roses.
Episode #13: Jason and Courtney speak on the phone about her excellent progress with her recovery thus far. Soon after, he gets a call from Shannon, who plays innocent. She then calls Courtney and tells her to forget about Jason -- he will belong to Shannon. Later, Shannon calls Courtney three times and hangs up each time. She tells herself that Courtney had better stay out of her business -- or else. Diane visits Claire, who reveals that they know about Diane visiting Tim. Diane lies that Tim presumed she was his wife, and Claire passes it off as a side-effect of the medication and amnesia. James visits Claire and she drags him to the hospital to visit Tim. When they enter his room, Tim points a finger and shouts, "You!"
Episode #14: Molly receives a threatening letter in the mail and then gets several threats via e-mail. Craig tries to get the name of the person who owns the e-mail account, but the company will not disclose the information. Brent tries, saying it is police business, and learns that the account is held by John Smith of Denver. They realize it sounds like an alias, but decide to fly to Denver to search for clues. Tim points at Claire, recounting his dream. She spills out the truth, but he won’t believe her; he orders her out. In the hall, Claire and James run into Diane, who sticks by her story about Tim hallucinating because of his medication. As Claire and James leave, Diane visits Tim and asks him to make love to her. Afterward, a satisfied Diane leaves the hospital. Claire is unaware of her scheming, but James seems to have picked up on something.
Episode #15: James’s lawyer brings Claire a court document allowing her to bring the amnesiac Tim home, whether he wants to or not. She heads to the hospital with the document and a wedding photo and Tim finally accepts her as his wife. He also recalls sleeping with Diane, but dismisses it as another hallucination due to the medicine, as Claire explained to him. Paula senses that something is bothering Sarah, but Sarah manages to cover the fact that she is nervous about Brent and Molly being together on their trip. Meanwhile, they arrive in Denver with Craig. Brent seems uncomfortable seeing Molly & Craig act affectionately. Later, in the hotel room, they bond while Brent discusses his childhood and family. Sparks fly as they lean in closer to each other ...
Episode #16: It is now several days later. Dr. Smith informs Courtney that her recovery is coming along nicely and she will be able to skate again soon. She goes to the Fishers’ and shares the news with Jason. Shannon breaks into the empty Chase home. She angrily smashes a picture of Jason and Courtney and then plants a speaker in Courtney’s room. She also manages to avoid being caught by Helen before leaving, undetected. In Denver, Molly convinces Brent that the only way to put the confusion behind them is to talk things out. It turns out they did not kiss at the end of Episode #15, but both seem uncomfortable dealing with their feelings; Molly says it’s necessary so that Craig and Sarah don’t find out what happened. Just then, Craig enters and asks what they’re discussing. James pays Diane a visit and warns her to stop meddling in Claire’s life. Diane denies his accusations, but finds it odd that James threatened her. Tim has a nightmare about the shooting. Claire rushes in and announces she is going into labor. They head to the hospital, where Jason, Courtney, Bill, & Paula join them. Claire gives birth to a boy. Upon seeing the baby, Tim has a memory flash. He suddenly remembers that James sent Alan to threaten him, and that was how he got shot. Tim announces that his memory is back!
Episode #17: Tim reveals to Claire that James was behind the shooting. Diane, who has come to visit, overhears this and makes a phone call with the intention of using the information to her advantage. Later, Tim tells the family that the baby will be named Travis Paul Fisher. They are introduced to Diane, who covers her presence by explaining that she was visiting a friend, and the group leaves. In Denver, Brent & Molly hide their conversation from Craig, who says that he has found enough evidence to conclude that the stalker does not live in Denver and is probably not named "John Smith." Sarah calls to tell Molly about the baby and is annoyed when Brent picks up the phone in Molly’s room. Afterward, Sarah vows to never lose Brent -- especially to Molly. Jason & Courtney discuss how they would each love to have children in the future; there seems to be a budding attraction between them. Molly & Craig arrive home late at night and are unpacking when they hear pounding on the door. The man outside is seen to be Dr. Smith! Meanwhile, at the hospital, a man, whose hands are only seen, breaks into the nursery and snatches baby Travis.
Episode #18: Molly & Craig manage to hold Dr. Smith off until he is arrested. The next morning, Molly gives Brent an official statement; there is definite sexual tension between them. Sarah seems threatened by Molly’s presence. Still, no one can figure out what Dr. Smith’s motive was. As she sleeps, Courtney hears Shannon’s voice through the tiny speaker planted in her room. She tells Helen & Don that it is merely a nightmare, but wonders what is wrong with her. A nurse tells Tim about the kidnapping, and he relays the news to Claire when she awakens. She is sure that James did it. Meanwhile, Diane hopes to herself that James caused a fight between Tim & Claire. She calls him and hears a baby crying in the background. James hangs up, but not before Diane realizes that he did kidnap Travis! James and Travis are seen in an airplane.
Episode #19: Tim goes to work and talks to Diane, who has just gathered from a phone conversation with James that he is near a jungle and mountains. Diane decides not to say anything for fear of losing Tim’s trust. Paula, meanwhile, comforts a distraught Claire. Brent & Sarah are called to the Fishers’ house, where an ominous message has been left for Molly -- with the stalker’s trademark roses. They fear that Dr. Smith is not the stalker after all. Craig takes Molly out for a romantic lunch, where he proposes marriage to her. She accepts, though plagued by visions of her kiss with Brent.
Episode #20: After a chat with Tim, who is torn apart by Travis’s kidnapping, Diane calls James, who assumes it is Alan and spills a few clues to his whereabouts. Diane sends Tim an anonymous fax detailing all the information she has obtained about James’s whereabouts. Later, Claire is discussing the situation with Sarah when Tim calls to tell her about the fax. Meanwhile, Courtney and Jason have a picnic and reminisce about their childhood together. Both privately feel more than friendship, they are forced to admit to themselves later on. Courtney goes to bring Jason his sweatshirt after hearing Shannon speak to her through the hidden speaker. She meets Jason halfway and he takes the shirt and heads home. As she crosses the street, Courtney’s mind replays Shannon’s threats; Courtney has no idea where they have come from. She shouts at the voice. Jason turns just in time to see Courtney frozen in the middle of the street, a car barreling towards her.
