TEASER
EXT. APARTMENT BUILDING, COURTYARD LATE EVENING
MOLLY FISHER walks down the outdoor stairs from her apart-
ment and goes to the wall of mailboxes. She opens up the box
that reads "Simmons, C. and Fisher, M." Molly removes a few
pieces of mail.
As she walks back towards the stairs, she flips through the
mail. Focus on one ENVELOPE that bears no return address and
has Molly’s name crudely typewritten upon it.
MOLLY
Oh no …
She clumsily opens the envelope and unfolds a single sheet of paper upon which are cutout letters from magazines that
spell out the message: "You will die, bitch!"
Hold on Molly’s fright.
CUT TO:
INT. HOSPITAL ROOM SAME
TIM is lying in the bed. CLAIRE and JAMES are standing in the doorway. Tim points at them.
TIM
You!
JAMES
Me?!?
TIM
No, her! Claire!
CLAIRE
What?
TIM
You— You were in my dream!
CLAIRE
What do you mean?
TIM
I had this dream, and it was
like I was at home; it just
seemed like my home, you know?
But you were there, not my
wife.
JAMES
(thinking)
What is going on here?
Claire steps into the room fully and approaches the bed.
CLAIRE
What do you mean, your wife?
TIM
My wife, Claire.
CLAIRE
I’m Claire. I’m your wife,
Tim.
TIM
No, no, no. Look, I don’t
know who you are or why you’re
pretending to be my wife, but
get out!
Out on Claire’s confusion.
ACT I
INT. CRAIG’S APARTMENT LATE EVENING
CRAIG is sitting on the couch, watching television. The door
opens and MOLLY enters, looking frightened.
CRAIG
What’s wrong? You look like
you’ve seen a ghost.
He hugs her.
MOLLY
Something like that. I— I just
got a letter …
CRAIG
What does it say?
MOLLY
Look.
She hands him the LETTER. He is shocked as he sees what the message says. Focus on the words: "You will die, bitch!"
CRAIG
Oh no – it’s him.
MOLLY
(through tears)
I know, Craig. He’s gonna get
me. I just know it.
CRAIG
Don’t you worry. I’ll keep you
safe.
Craig puts the letter on the coffee table.
CRAIG
(cont’d)
And as for this, we’ll give it
to Brent tomorrow.
He embraces her and they stand holding each other. They fade
into the background as the camera focuses on the message of
the letter.
CUT TO:
INT. HOSPITAL ROOM SAME
CLAIRE stands frozen as TIM stares at her coldly. JAMES re-
mains in the doorway.
TIM
I don’t know what kind of sick
person you are, trying to screw
with the head of a man who
can’t remember anything, but I
know you’re not my wife.
CLAIRE
But I am!
She approaches and places a hand on his cheek; he harshly brushes it off.
CLAIRE
(cont’d)
I don’t understand what’s going
on. Who … ?
TIM
Just get out.
Claire breaks down into tears and James leads her out of the room.
Tim shows a look of bafflement on his face.
FADE TO:
FLASHBACK
INT. HOSPITAL ROOM THE NIGHT BEFORE
DIANE is standing in the doorway.
DIANE
Tim, it’s time to go home.
TIM stares at her.
DIANE
I know you don’t recognize me,
honey, but soon enough you’ll
get your memory back and we can
be together again.
TIM
But … how? Who are you?
DIANE
Well … I can’t really tell you
that. The doctor says you have
to figure it out for yourself.
TIM Oh, wow. Did you say it’s
time to go home?
DIANE
Yeah, I did. The doctor said it
was okay to take you home.
TIM
Oh, great. I’d asked if I could
go home, but I never really got
an answer.
DIANE
You’ve got one now, Tim: Let’s
go.
FADE TO:
INT. HOSPITAL ROOM LATE EVENING
TIM is lying in the bed, a puzzled look on his face.
TIM
(thinking)
Something’s not right here.
CUT TO:
INT. HOSPITAL HALLWAY SAME
CLAIRE is standing next to JAMES in awkward silence. A NURSE walks by.
CLAIRE
Excuse me—
NURSE
Oh, Mrs. Fisher. How’s the
baby doing?
CLAIRE
Pretty well, I guess.
NURSE
When are you due?
CLAIRE
Within the next two weeks.
NURSE
You must be so excited.
CLAIRE
I am. But I need to know some-
thing: Did my husband have any
visitors last night?
NURSE
Let me think.
They stand in silence for a moment as the nurse ponders the question.
NURSE
(cont’d)
Come to think of it, yes he did.
A woman.
CLAIRE
Do you have any idea who it
was?
NURSE
He seemed to think she was his
wife, from what I can remember.
CLAIRE
Do you remember what she looked
like?
The nurse again ponders the question.
NURSE
Not really. I see so many
people in a day …
DIANE BISHOP walks towards them down the hallway. The nurse points at her.
NURSE
(cont’d)
That’s her!
JAMES
(thinking)
My God, me having Tim shot is
the least of Claire’s problems!
CLAIRE
Diane, I need to talk to you.
DIANE
(thinking)
Oh no …
ACT II
INT. CRAIG’S APARTMENT LATE EVENING
MOLLY sits at the COMPUTER when CRAIG enters the room. He comes up behind her.
CRAIG
How ya doin’?
MOLLY
A little bit better. I’m just
really shaken up.
CRAIG
Don’t worry about it, honey.
Everything will be fine.
He kisses her on the cheek.
CRAIG
(cont’d)
What’re you doing?
MOLLY
Just checking my e-mail and
stuff.
CRAIG
Probably full of junk mail.
MOLLY
Surprise, surprise.
Craig leaves the room.
INT. APARTMENT HALLWAY SAME
CRAIG leans against the wall.
CRAIG
(sotto voce)
Don’t worry, Molly – I’ll keep
you protected.
Craig walks down the hallway.
INT. CRAIG’S APARTMENT SAME
MOLLY sits at the computer. She clicks the mouse a few times and waits for her e-mail to appear.
MOLLY
Here it is …
She stares confusedly at the computer.
MOLLY
(cont’d)
What is this?
She clicks the mouse again and gasps loudly. She begins to cry. CRAIG dashes into the room.
CRAIG
What’s wrong, Molly?
MOLLY
I, I just went to look at my
e-mail, and look what I found!
Focus on computer screen: an e-mail box contains the big, boldfaced words "I’m coming for you, Molly!"
Craig clicks the mouse several times.
CRAIG
There, I saved it. We’ll show
it to Brent tomorrow.
He stares confusedly at the screen.
CRAIG
(cont’d)
What the hell?!? You have like
six e-mails from that address!
MOLLY
Craig, we have to find out who’s
doing this to me!
CRAIG
I know, Molly, I know.
He holds her as they both stare at the screen.
INT. HOSPITAL HALLWAY SAME
CLAIRE, DIANE, JAMES, and a NURSE all stand together.
DIANE
Um, uh, Claire … what’d you
want to ask me?
CLAIRE
This nurse says you came to
visit Tim last night.
DIANE
Well, yeah, I did …
CLAIRE
Tim tells us that his "wife" was
here last night. Do you know
anything about this?
DIANE
Well, yeah.
INT. HOSPITAL ROOM SAME
TIM lays in the bed. His eyes are open but stare blankly at nothing in particular.
Images of Diane and Claire flash in his mind.
INT. HOSPITAL HALLWAY SAME
DIANE, CLAIRE, JAMES, and a NURSE stand together.
DIANE
(cont’d)
I do know what’s going on.
CLAIRE
Would you like to explain it?
DIANE
I, uh– well, I came to see Tim
last night. And right after I
got here, a nurse came in and
gave him a shot. Then when I
started to talk to him again he
DIANE
(cont’d)
began calling me his wife.
CLAIRE
Now it all makes sense.
The nurse excuses herself and steps away from the convers- ation.
CLAIRE
(cont’d)
Do you realize what this means?
DIANE
What?
CLAIRE
It means that Tim is starting to
get his memory back. Jason told
me that Tim had a dream about the
apartment; and now a shot made
him hallucinate that you were
me …
DIANE
Yeah, that must’ve been what
happened.
DIANE
(thinking)
That was a little too close for
comfort.
CLAIRE
The only problem now is that
Tim won’t believe I’m his wife.
We have to convince him that I’m
telling the truth.
ACT III
INT. APARTMENT, LIVING ROOM LATE EVENING
CRAIG sits in a chair watching TV. Enter MOLLY, her face red from crying.
MOLLY
Craig, I’m really scared.
CRAIG
I know you are, honey.
MOLLY
What— What if he comes here?
Tonight? What if he tries to—
CRAIG
Don’t think like that.
He rises and hugs her.
CRAIG
(cont’d)
I’ll tell you what. Why don’t
I put in a call to the online
service and see if they can tell
us who sent those e-mails to
you?
MOLLY
Can we do that?
CRAIG
It’s worth a try. Get me the
number.
Molly leaves the room and returns with a phone book in hand. She flips quickly through pages until one catches her eye.
MOLLY
Found it.
She brings the book over to Craig and points the number out to him. He dials.
CRAIG
Hi. I’d like to speak to some-
one about a problem with an
account on your service.
He waits for a moment.
CRAIG
(cont’d)
Yeah, I’ll hold.
Hold on Molly as she bites her lip anxiously.
ACT IV
INT. HOSPITAL ROOM SAME
TIM is lying in the bed. Enter DIANE.
DIANE
Hi, honey.
TIM
Claire! Hi! There was this
woman—
Enter a NURSE. She carries a NEEDLE.
NURSE
Mr. Fisher, it’s time for an-
other shot.
TIM
Not again!
NURSE
I’m afraid so.
The nurse gives him the shot and leaves.
DIANE
(thinking)
This is even better than I’d
hoped for.
DIANE
How are you feeling, honey?
TIM
Pretty good. A little bored,
but pretty good. As I was say-
ing—
DIANE
Hush, hush. I’ve got something
that should take your mind off
the boredom.
TIM
What’s that?
DIANE
I want you to make love to me.
INT. HOSPITAL CAFETERIA SAME
CLAIRE and JAMES sit at a table.
JAMES
I’m so sorry everything turned
out this way, Claire.
CLAIRE
Hopefully nothing will "turn
out" like this. If Diane does
what I told her to …
JAMES
Are you sure it’ll work?
CLAIRE
Positive.
INT. APARTMENT, LIVING ROOM SAME
CRAIG sits with the phone to his ear. MOLLY waits anxiously nearby.
CRAIG
Yeah, we received some threats
via your service this evening.
We’d like to find out who sent
them.
A short pause ensues as the person at the other end speaks.
CRAIG
The screen name that sent them
is JS24.
Another pause follows.
CRAIG
You can’t?! Okay, well, thanks
anyway. Good night.
Craig hangs up the phone.
MOLLY
What did he say? They couldn’t
find out who owns it?
CRAIG
No, no. He said that they can’t
give out that information to just
anyone who calls.
MOLLY
I see … Hey, what if it was
the cops calling? Let’s see if
Brent can do anything for us?
CRAIG
Good idea!
She picks up the phone and dials Brent’s number.
INT. HOSPITAL ROOM SAME
DIANE is buttoning up the rest of her shirt. TIM lies in the bed, looking somewhat dazed.
TIM
That was great, Claire.
DIANE
It felt so good, Tim – it felt
so good to hold you again – to
make love with you.
She puts her jacket back on.
DIANE
(cont’d)
Only one thing – you cannot tell
anyone about this.
TIM
I understand. Otherwise—
DIANE
Otherwise I’d get in major
trouble.
She opens the door up and begins to step out.
TIM
I love you, Claire!
DIANE
Love you too, honey! Bye!
Diane exits the room.
INT. HOSPITAL HALLWAY SAME
Grinning, DIANE leans against a wall across the hall from the elevator.
DIANE
That was excellent, Tim. And
hopefully it’ll be the first
time of many for us.
She is interrupted by the ring that announces the arrival of the elevator. The doors open and out step CLAIRE and JAMES.
CLAIRE
So, Diane, did you make any
progress with Tim?
ACT V
INT. APARTMENT NIGHT
CRAIG and MOLLY stand in the living room, awaiting news. In the background, BRENT speaks on the phone.
MOLLY
Craig, I’m so worried! I hope
Brent can find something out.
CRAIG
So do I.
In the background, Brent hangs up the phone.
MOLLY
Oh, Brent! What did you find
out?
BRENT
Well, I told the company that
it was official police business,
and they finally disclosed to
me that the owner of the account
is someone by the name of John
Smith. Ring a bell?
MOLLY
Not at all.
BRENT
That’s what I figured. It’s most
likely an alias.
CRAIG
So that does us no good?
BRENT
They also informed me that this
"John Smith" set this account
up from Denver.
MOLLY
Can’t you get the Denver police
to find him?
BRENT
I’m afraid not. I got them on
the phone, but they said there
are no grounds to begin a
search.
MOLLY
Oh, great … What do we do now?
CRAIG
Is there anything we can do?
BRENT
I’d like to get to the bottom
of this before Molly gets hurt.
So I’m boarding the first flight
to Denver tomorrow morning.
MOLLY
You’re gonna leave Sarah?
BRENT
It’s work. She’ll understand.
MOLLY
Won’t you be lonely? All alone
looking for this nut?
BRENT
Well—
CRAIG
Of course he won’t. Because
we’re going with him.
Hold on Molly and Brent’s surprise.
INT. HOSPITAL HALLWAY SAME
CLAIRE and JAMES stand just outside the elevator. DIANE is leaning against the wall opposite them.
CLAIRE
So, did you make any progress
with Tim, Diane?
DIANE
(thinking)
More than you can imagine, dear.
DIANE
I tried, Claire, I really did
try … but Tim was given that
shot again, and he kept calling
me "Claire" and stuff.
CLAIRE
Oh, for the love of God … what
am I gonna do?
Hold on Claire’s frustration.
INT. HOSPITAL ROOM SAME
Lying in the bed is Tim, half-asleep. He looks uneasy.
FADE TO:
Images of DIANE and CLAIRE flash through Tim’s mind.
CUT TO:
EXT. INDISTINGUISHABLE ALLEY NIGHT
TIM stands in fear as a MALE HAND holds a GUN near him. The line of vision moves up the arm, but becomes extremely fuzzy and the shooter cannot be seen. A gunshot is heard.
